Description
This is an early 18th-century house, now divided into three separate dwellings, forming an L-shaped block. The original main ranges were numbers 2 and 3. The facade is built of hammer-dressed stone, rendered at the rear, with a stone slate roof. The front of the house has quoins and a simple string course above a square recess. It features a doorway with composite jambs, and double-framed, recessed, flat-faced mullioned windows of 4 and 6 lights on both floors, although some mullions have been removed. Moulded stone gutter brackets are positioned below the current eaves. A barn has been recently converted into additional accommodation for number 2, with a rebuilt front wall containing casement windows, coped gables with kneelers, and a new stack. The rear of the building has an outshot or aisle of single-storey construction. The left-hand gable displays the remains of a columbarium and a recessed heart-shaped stone at the apex. A single-storey range with a lean-to roof and coped ends with kneelers is attached to the right-hand gable wall, forming a doorway for number 3 with monolithic jambs. Number 1 faces the road and has a doorway with monolithic jambs flanked by 2-light flat-faced mullioned windows; the doorway is now a window. It also has a coped gable with kneelers and a stack. A nearby stone windmill, previously present, has been demolished.
