Description

Height Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 16th century, with additions from the 17th century. It has a three-room hall and cross-wing plan, incorporating a through-passage and a rear dairy. The house is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof.

The south front has six-light, double-chamfered cavetto mullioned windows, with the centre two lights reduced in size. A doorway has a deeply stop-chamfered surround, and a two-light fire-window has a lowered sill. A former six-light housebody window with a king mullion, originally with six lights, has been altered to four. On the first floor, there are two flat-faced mullioned windows of four broad lights, dating from the early 19th century, with a single light inserted between them. The cross-wing projects forward under a cat-slide roof, flush with the rear range, and features an altered former four-light window, now two wide lights, along with a four-light double-chamfered mullioned window above. Coped gables with kneelers are present, and there are three stacks of 18th-century character on the ridge. A blocked former three-light double-chamfered mullioned window appears on the left hand return wall, above a door with a drip stop. A three-light window is located on the first floor.

The rear of the house features a six-light chamfered mullioned window with cavetto mullions to the right of the through-passage door, which has a deeply chamfered surround. Above this is a four-light flat-faced mullioned window and a single light. The dairy projects forward, with a coped gable, kneelers and a six-light double-chamfered mullioned window, alongside a stepped two-over-four-light double-chamfered mullioned window. A corner stack is present. The rear of the cross-wing includes a three-light double-chamfered mullioned window on both floors. The right hand return wall features a former two-light window and two flat-faced mullioned windows of three broad lights on the first floor.

The group value is based on its architectural and historical interest.
