Description

This is a terrace of houses, built around 1854 by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt as part of the Saltaire model village. The terrace, located at 12-22 William Henry Street, Shipley, also incorporates numbers 3 Caroline Street and 3 Albert Terrace. The houses were designed for Salt’s workforce and include lodging houses at each end. Constructed from hammer-dressed stone, the terrace has Welsh slate roofs. The end houses and number 19 are three-storeys high, while the remaining houses are two-storeys. Most houses have two bays, with the end houses being single-bayed and projecting slightly. The ground-floor features round-arched, archivolted openings, while the first floor has square-headed openings. Sill bands and wooden brackets support the gutters. The roofs are hipped. Two-storey wings extend to the rear, and the return elevations include entrances to the end houses. There is a further bay extending to numbers 3 Albert Street and 3 Caroline Street.
