Description
The Church of St Stephen, built in 1860 by the Mallinson and Healy partnership, is a sandstone "brick" church featuring 14th-century details and a chancel designed in a French style as a chevet. The nave has gabled clerestory squat windows, low aisles, and short transepts. A tower is located on the north side of the west end, topped with a slated helm and broached spire, and adorned with gargoyles and a large west window. Inside, the church has a boarded roof supported by scissor trusses, which are interrupted by a clerestory dormer. The glass in the aisles is by Powell and Vayll of Leeds, while the west window features elaborate stained glass depicting Christ in Glory, created in 1907.
