Description
Union Croft Congregational Chapel is a chapel built in 1842, with an addition made in 1925. It is constructed from dressed sandstone and features a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a three-bay symmetrical gable front. The central entrance consists of a panelled double door, which is sheltered by a stone slab canopy supported by carved brackets. The chapel has 4-pane casement windows and a central sash window on the first floor. There is a round-arched light at the apex of the gable, along with a tablet that reads "UNION CROFT CHAPEL AD 1842." The gable copings are returned as springers. The 1925 addition at the rear includes several memorial stones in its gable end, and the side elevations also have three bays.
Inside, the chapel features an organ loft and choir gallery with a central pulpit that has a panelled front. There is an elaborately carved organ case, likely from around 1925. The gallery extends to the rear and sides, supported by cast-iron columns and featuring panelled fronts. The gallery contains box pews, while the ground floor and choir gallery have pews dating from around 1880.
