Description

This is a farmhouse, likely representing a portion of a larger original building. It dates primarily to the 17th century, with significant alterations made in the 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed of thinly-coursed rubble with a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and a through-passage plan. Quoins are present. The entrance is on the right side, featuring a chamfered surround, a Tudor arch, and a hoodmould. The windows are double-chamfered and include a 14-light window on the ground floor’s left side, where the transom has been removed and only two mullions remain. This window has a hoodmould and square diagonally-set stops. Above it, on the first floor’s left side, is a 5-light window with all mullions removed. A 6-light window with a transom and both mullions removed is located on the first floor’s right side. Stone gutter brackets are visible. The right gable has cut kneeler coping. Gable stacks are present on the left side. The rear elevation has a left-side entrance with a cambered head and chamfered surround, and a 19th-century outshut addition to the right. Later buttressing has been added to the left gable, where a former barn was removed.

Inside, the main room has stop-chamfered beams and stop-chamfered joists (some joists are replacements). One beam has grooves, indicating a former partition. An early oak stile and head are present on a door from the passage into the main room. Some early re-used purlins are found in the roof.
