Description
The Institute for the Blind, located at Nos 2 to 12 North Parade, Bradford, with an additional frontage on Upper Piccadilly, was built in 1868 and designed by Knowles and Wilcock. It is a Domestic Gothic style building situated on an important corner site. The building is constructed of roughly dressed sandstone that resembles brick, with ashlar dressings. It is three storeys high and features a splayed gabled corner, gabled dormers on both frontages, and moulded saddlestones. The windows are mullioned-transomed, with an oriel bay window incorporated into the corner. Pierced quatrefoils are present in the gables, and the roof has a steep pitch covered in slate. Modern shop fronts have been added. Nos 10 and 12 have plain two-storey fronts with slate roofs and sash windows, also with modern shop fronts.
