Description

The Sir Titus Salt Memorial, located in Lister Park, was built around 1880 to honor Sir Titus Salt, who passed away in 1876. He was the founder of Saltaire and a key competitor to mill owners S. C. Lister and Isaac Holden. The memorial is a simplified and smaller version of the Albert Memorial. It features a seated marble statue beneath an ornately carved sandstone Gothic canopy supported by clustered polished granite shafts. There are statuettes in niches above the shafts, and the entire structure stands on a tall stepped granite plinth.
