Description
The Methodist Church, built in 1844 and likely designed by James Simpson, is a chapel that underwent alterations in 1873. It is constructed from coursed millstone grit and features a stone slate roof. The building is one storey high and consists of six by three bays, with the entrance located at the rear wing. The two central bays project forward under a pediment, which is topped by a later bellcote.
The church has round-headed windows that include glazing bars, stone cills, and voussoirs. The two central windows are particularly notable, featuring archivolts with keystones and a moulded impost band, above which is an ashlar band inscribed 'Wesleyan School AD 1873'. The eaves cornice and ashlar coping add to the architectural detail. The left gable of the building includes a clock set within an architrave, and the rear wing has similar windows.
