Description

This is a terrace of improved workers' houses located in Caroline Street, Shipley, part of the Saltaire model village. Completed by 1868, they were designed by Lockwood & Mawson for Titus Salt. The houses are constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a Welsh slate roof.

The terrace comprises ten properties, numbered 41 to 50, with the end houses projecting slightly and featuring bracketed gables. Each house has two bays, except for the end houses. The entrances have stepped reveals topped with fanlights. The ground-floor windows are round-arched and archivolted; the end houses have a triple group with round-arched lights to the first floor, while the others have square-headed first-floor windows. A sill band runs across the first floor. Stone brackets support the gutter. The return elevations are also two bays wide.
