Description

A terrace of improved workers’ houses located in Saltaire, completed by 1868 as part of the model village designed by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt. The buildings are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a Welsh slate roof and extend over two storeys. The terrace comprises ten houses, with the end houses slightly projecting and featuring bracketed gables. Each house has two bays. The entrances are set in stepped reveals and feature fanlights, while the ground-floor windows are round-arched and archivolted. The end houses have a triple-group of windows with round-arched lights to the first floor. The remaining houses have square-headed windows to the first floor. A first-floor sill band runs along the building. Stone brackets support the gutter. The return elevations are two bays wide. The group value lies in its contribution to the architectural unity and historical significance of the Saltaire model village.
