Description

Nos 6 and 8 Holroyd Hill are a pair of sandstone cottages built in 1783, forming part of a slightly later row of buildings. They feature raised quoins and a plat band, and are topped with a stone slate roof that has a block bracket at the eaves. The cottages have two-light square mullion windows set in squared surrounds. A notable ashlar date panel with a shaped head is inscribed with "Built in the year 1783" along with the initials C over E F. Below this, there is a shield that appears to display masonic symbols, including crossed calipers and an axe, a thistle, and a small pick or stone hammer held in hand.
