Description
Maltkiln, located on Reva Syke Road in Clayton, is a building that consists of back-to-back rows adapted around 1820 from an 18th-century farmhouse and likely maltings, as suggested by the name. The structure is two stories high and constructed from thin sandstone "bricks" with flush quoins. The roof heights vary slightly and are covered with stone slates, featuring saddlestones with shaped kneelers. The building has single and two-light square mullioned windows set in squared surrounds, along with squared jamb doorways; notably, No 6 has a pediment-hood. This building is included for its interest as a cottage vernacular adaptation of an earlier structure.
