Description
This building, known as No 3 Melbourne Place, is part of a pair of villas designed as one, dating from around 1850 to 1855. It is located on a corner site and is two stories tall, constructed from dressed sandstone "brick" with ashlar dressings. The building features a plinth, ashlar quoins, a sill band, a frieze, and prominent modillion brackets supporting the flat stone eaves of a hipped slate roof. The corniced chimneys and five-bay front include two window breaks flanking the center, with the roof hipped over these sections. The shallow revealed casement windows have large rectangular panes, while the ground floor windows are adorned with flat entablatures and architrave surrounds that extend down to the plinth. The center window is tripartite, featuring inverted carved consoles that cap the mullions. The entrance is located on the three-bay south front, which includes a pilastered porch with a deep entablature and pediment. The elevation facing Melbourne Place also consists of three bays, with a sill band and similar window arrangements, and features a grooved pilaster porch with a modillion bracketed pediment.
