Description
The well-house, located 5 metres west of a barn dated 1783 and 200 metres south-west of Farfield Hall, is a late 18th-century structure that may have originally been used as a dairy for Farfield Hall but is now utilized as a cowhouse. It is constructed of rubble brought to course with dressed quoins and features a hipped stone slate roof. The building is single-storey, with its east facade facing the farmyard.
The front has a central doorway with tie-stone jambs, which is currently blocked, flanked by narrow horizontal ventilators. The left-hand return wall includes another doorway with tie-stone jambs and an additional ventilator. The rear of the building has similar windows to the front, while the right-hand return wall also has a doorway with tie-stone jambs and a blocked ventilator.
Inside, the well-house consists of five bays supported by four soft-wood king-post trusses and also contains a water pump.
