Description
This building is a barn located 50 meters south of Tomling Cote Farmhouse, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of rubble brought to course with dressed quoins and features a stone slate roof. The barn has five bays, with a large central cart-entry that has composite jambs and a segmental arch formed by two cantilevered stones with a joggled keystone. To the right, there is a mistal doorway at a lower level, which has tie-stone jambs and a quoined lintel. The rear of the barn includes a mistal doorway with a chamfered surround, which may date back to the 17th century and appears to be re-used. The right gable has a coped top with kneelers, while the left gable also has kneelers but lacks coping.
Inside, there are two oak fish-bone king-post trusses with convex curved struts, along with two softwood queen-post trusses from the 19th century. The barn has standings for four cows at either end.
