Description
No 40 on Main Street is a building likely constructed around 1800. It has an L-shaped design, positioned next to No 38 on the right, with a longer main frontage on the left that runs at right angles to the road. The building stands two storeys tall and is taller than No 38. It features coursed rubble that is roughly squared and has a steep-pitched slate roof that is hipped at the corner. The main front has three altered windows, with the middle window being narrower. There is a central doorway that includes a keystone and a fanlight, along with small paired gutter brackets and ridge chimneys. This building, along with No 30, the Malt Shovel Public House, the outbuildings next to it, and Nos 34 to 40, forms a cohesive group of structures along the south side of Main Street.
