Description
Grange Farm House, now divided into two properties known as Grange Farm House and The Grange, dates from 1672. It was originally a substantial farmhouse. The building is constructed of squared, coursed stone with a stone slab roof. It has gable copings with small moulded kneelers. The facade is not symmetrical, with a central porch having a room above that projects significantly. The doorway is framed by a moulded rectangular surround containing a very flattened pointed arch. The lintel is inscribed "RHS 1672" and above it is a continuous ground-storey dripmould that breaks upwards. A three-light window with a drip mould sits above the lintel, and there is a blind circular window in the gable which is coped with kneelers. Other windows feature chamfered mullions and separate dripmoulds, except for the sash window. Above the porch to the left are a four-light and a five-light window. To the right above are a five-light, a two-light round-headed window, and a single-light sash window in slab surrounds, which formerly served as an upper doorway. Below the porch to the left are a three-light, a modern door, and a five-light window. To the right are a five-light, a modern door, and a four-light window. A modern extension has been added to the left. An external chimney is located on the right, featuring two projecting gargoyles of unknown purpose.
