Description

This is a group of six cottages at Tordoff Green, dating to approximately 1800, forming an L-shaped block of slightly varied construction. The cottages are built primarily of sandstone, with numbers 2 and 4 exhibiting longer gritstone “bricks” suggesting an 18th-century origin. They have stone slate roofs and corniced chimneys. Each cottage features single or two-light square mullion windows set in squared surrounds. A sill band is present on numbers 4 and 5, with number 5 partly rough cast. Number 6 is a later addition, dating to approximately 1840, built with similar detailing. The doorways have squared jambs. The group is included on the list for its architectural interest as a vernacular cottage grouping.
