Description

Nos 23 to 29 on Cousen Road are early 19th-century buildings, likely originally constructed as a pair of cottages. They were altered in the mid-19th century when Horton Park was created. The buildings are two stories tall and made of sandstone "brick" with a stone slate roof. They feature saddle-stones at the gable ends, corniced chimneys, and block brackets at the eaves. There is a first-floor sill band on the road front. The windows include single and two-light square mullioned framed designs, while the doorways are simply framed. The gable ends have round-headed attic windows set in squared frames with impost blocks above the arches. On the park side, there are four mid-19th-century sash windows with squared frames. The ground floor has a pilastered tea room front from the mid to late 19th century, with a window and doorway that includes a common frieze and cornice.
