Description

A group of four houses, now shops and offices (numbers 18 and 20 are described as a single property), were built around 1840. The houses have brick facades with ashlar stone dressings and slate roofs, featuring two gable and two ridge stacks. They are three stories high, with an eight-window range of plain sash windows, each with a brick flat arch. Above this, the facade is divided; to the left are two smaller plain sashes, followed by two two-light casements. To the right are again two small plain sashes, then a 20th-century single-pane window. Most of the windows have brick flat arches. At ground level, each house has a Classical wooden doorcase with triple shaft pilasters and a moulded cornice, flanked by a Gothic scraper. The doors are six-panelled, with overlights. To the right of each door is a window. Number 12 has a 20th-century glazed shopfront with a central glazed door. Number 14 has a 20th-century single-pane window with a fascia. Number 16 has a 19th-century tripartite plain sash window. Number 18 has a 20th-century two-light window with a central stone mullion. The interiors have not been inspected. Numbers 12, 14, and 16 were originally listed in 1973, and numbers 18 and 20 were added to the list more recently.
