Description

Stag Works is a cutlery works that has been converted into workshops, built around 1880. The building is constructed of brick with painted ashlar dressings and features a slate mansard roof with four ridge stacks and two gable stacks. It has a plinth, a sill band on the second floor, dentilled eaves, and coped gables. The structure consists of two storeys plus attics and has an eleven-window range.

The design includes four blocks with regular window arrangements surrounding a rectangular yard. On the left side, there are eight two-storey round-arched recesses, each containing a round-arched plain sash window above and a segment-arched glazing bar window below. To the right, there is an entrance bay featuring two smaller round-arched windows set in recesses above a doorway that has quoins and a moulded lintel with a label mould and finial. The entrance includes a moulded nine-panel door. Further to the right, there is a similar pair of small windows above a flat-headed cart entrance that has shallow buttresses and a lintel with a label mould, which displays the works' name painted on it. Continuing to the right, there is a two-storey recess with a round-arched plain sash window above and a segment-arched door below. The second floor has twenty-three segment-arched glazing bar casements, and in the end bay to the right, there is a segment-arched plain sash window. The attic features continuous fenestration with four-pane casements. The interior has not been inspected.
