Description
Houses, now offices, dating from around 1850 with later 19th-century elements and restored in 1995. The building is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and has hipped slate roofs topped with two ridge stacks. The exterior is three storeys high and features a plinth, string courses, and a rebuilt parapet with a balustrade to the slightly projecting central section. There are six windows arranged in a 2:2:2 pattern, all with 12 panes of glazing bar in sash windows. Above these are six smaller windows with 9 panes of glazing bar. The ground floor has two 12-pane sashes to the left, a central doorway with a moulded ashlar surround and cornice, an overlight, and a 6-panel door, alongside another 12-pane sash. To the right is a doorway with a rusticated ashlar surround and cornice, a 6-panel door with a plain fan-light, and a final single 12-pane sash. The interior of the building was not inspected. The premises were occupied as offices by the Tinsley Coal Company from 1856 until around 1930; coal was transported from Tinsley Colliery by rail to the nearby canal wharf.
