Description

Briery Busk Farmhouse and Cottages comprise a pair of houses, now divided into six dwellings. The building dates to 1786, as indicated by a plaque reading ‘WRM / 1786’. Constructed from coursed, squared gritstone, it features a stone slate roof. The houses were originally designed as a reflected pair. The building is three storeys high and four bays wide. Large quoins are present throughout. A door is located to the right of bay one, set within a quoined surround and deep lintel; an inserted door with a shallow lintel is adjacent to it. A similar inserted door is located adjacent to the door on the left side of bay four. Modern doors have been installed. Four two-light mullion windows, set in square-faced surrounds with projecting sills, are present on each floor. The ground and first floors of bay two have 12-pane sashes, while the others are later sashes and casements. A band separates each floor. A date plaque is centered on the second floor. Stone gutter brackets are visible externally. Shouldered ashlar stacks with plain bands to their ends and a central ridge stack are present, along with two smaller ridge stacks between them. The rear of the building features central steps leading to two doors within quoined surrounds, with a window on each side, consisting of two and four lights, incorporating square-faced mullions and transoms, with the four central lights blocked. A later outshut is located to the right. A barn is attached to the left side, a conservatory is situated to the front of bay one, and a garage is located to the right, none of which are of special architectural interest.
