Description
No. 1 Rundle Road, which also includes No. 51 Kenwood Park Road, is a pair of houses built around 1860. They are constructed from rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and have hipped and gabled slate roofs featuring patterned ridge tiles and finials. Designed in the Gothick style, the buildings are set on an acute angled corner site with a triangular plan.
The exterior features a plinth, string course, and quoins. The houses rise two storeys plus attics and have a two-window range. Most windows are traceried cross casements with label moulds. At the corner, there is a square two-storey bay window with sill and lintel bands and a crenellated parapet, which contains a three-light casement on each floor. The lower window is flanked by a similar two-light window on either side, while the upper window has a similar flanking window only on the right.
On the Rundle Road front, there is a traceried eaves band and an external stack to the left. The central feature is a two-light casement, and below it is a pointed arched doorway with a recessed glazed door and sidelights, flanked by a single light window on the left. To the right, there is a gable with traceried bargeboards and a canted two-storey bay window that has a four-light casement on each floor, with an additional two-light casement above.
The Kenwood Park Road side also has a similar traceried eaves band, a central two-light casement, and below it, a canted flat-roofed porch with an untraceried two-light casement and a half-glazed door with an overlight. To the right of the porch is a single light window, and further right is a triangular oriel window on a bracket. To the left, there is a canted two-storey bay window with a four-light window on each floor. The interior has not been inspected.
