Description

This is a lodge with a boundary wall and gate piers, built around 1844. It was likely designed by William Flockton for George Wolstenholme, a cutler and developer of the Kenwood area. The lodge was originally associated with Kenwood House, which is now the Swallow Hotel (not included in the listing).

The building is constructed of oolitic limestone with sandstone ashlar dressings and patterned slate roofs. It has a plinth and quoins, with coped gables. The main facade has two bays. To the right is a square entrance bay with a four-light stone mullioned window topped with a pyramidal roof and finial. Below this window is a chamfered pointed arched carriage entrance with a hoodmould and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. To the left, there is a gable with a two-storey canted stone bay window, featuring a hipped roof and cast-iron crest. This bay contains a two-light plain sash window with a stone mullion, and a stone mullioned cross casement, both flanked by single light windows. The left return has a single-storey canted projection with a hipped roof and a slit window to the left, with a shallow buttress to its right. The interior has not been inspected.

Attached to the lodge is a boundary wall with chamfered coping. A higher section on the left has a board door, while a lower section on the right formerly supported a railing. Two round, painted ashlar gate piers with conical tops stand alongside the wall.
