Description
12 and 14 George Street are office buildings dating from around 1870. They are constructed of brick with ashlar and granite dressings, topped with a hipped slate roof featuring a single gable and stacks on the ridge and side walls, all of which are coped. The buildings have a plinth, a banded ground floor, a string course, moulded sill bands, and a bracketed wooden eaves cornice.
The structure is three storeys high and features a five-window range. The ground floor has five plain sash windows, with the central window having a moulded surround and cornice. Above, there are five similar but slightly smaller windows with segmental heads. The ground floor also includes round-arched polychrome openings with hoodmoulds and an impost band. There is a central barrel-vaulted carriage entrance flanked by square granite piers, with roundels in the spandrels. On either side of the entrance, there are two plain sashes with panelled aprons. The left corner of the building has a full-height recessed blank panel. The left return mirrors the front's fenestration, featuring a round-headed panelled door with a blank fanlight to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
