Description
No. 35 George Street is a bank building, now used as offices, dating from 1914. The building has been raised at the rear in the late 20th century. It is constructed of Portland stone ashlar with a granite plinth and is designed in a Classical Revival style. The structure is a single storey plus attics, with a three-storey rear elevation and a five-window range.
The front entrance, which faces north, is fully rusticated and features a moulded doorcase with a plank door and a cove moulded blank tympanum that includes a keystone. On either side of the entrance, there are curved bays supported by Doric piers, each containing an 18-pane sash window with a lattice guard rail. A projecting cornice is adorned with a pair of urns. The attic area includes a pediment displaying a coat of arms and a stone mullioned triple sash window flanked by panelled pilasters. The corners of the building are rounded and supported by console brackets.
On the right return, there are five 32-pane sash windows with cornices, with the central window featuring a pediment on scroll brackets. To the right, there is a slight recess containing a recessed panelled double door, above which is a 15-pane sash window. The attic has five glazing bar sashes, with a smaller similar sash to the right. The rear elevation, facing Mulberry Street, has five windows on each floor and includes the late 20th-century upper storey. The interior has not been inspected.
