Description
The dovecote, dated 1740 on the lintel, is located approximately 75 metres north of Barnes Hall. It features a lower storey constructed of rubble gritstone and an upper storey made of brick, topped with a stone slate roof. The structure is two storeys high and consists of a single cell. The ground floor has quoins and a blocked 2-light square-faced mullion window. The first floor includes a central doorway with an ashlar surround, above which is a ledge and a similar 2-light window with casements that have glazing bars. There are also two raised stone slabs in the roof slope with damaged wooden access holes beneath them. At the rear, there is a door on the left with a dated lintel that provides ground floor access from the adjacent farmyard. Inside, the upper floor walls contain brick nesting holes.
