Description

Hillfoot Bridge is a road bridge that spans the River Don, built in 1885 and altered in 1912. It is constructed of ashlar and features three segmental arches with heavily rusticated voussoirs and moulded cutwaters that have rounded ends. A dentilled string course runs along the bridge, and the parapet wall has chamfered coping with rounded corners, which were added during the 1912 alterations. There are pedestals above the cutwaters, and at each corner, larger pedestals with dentilled cornices are topped with incomplete cast-iron gas lamps. These lamps were provided by the proprietors of the nearby Neepsend Gasworks, although the gasworks itself is not included in the listing.
