Description

The Owl Public House, formerly known as Farfield House and Farfield Inn, is a house that has been converted into a public house. It was built in 1753 and has undergone alterations in the late 19th century and mid 20th century. The building is constructed of stone, which is rendered and painted, and features gabled and hipped slate roofs with coped gables and two gable and a single ridge brick stack. It has a plinth, quoins, a wooden gutter with modillion brackets, and two 18th-century gadrooned lead rainwater heads and downpipes.

The building has three storeys and a three by two window arrangement. The upper floors contain three sash windows, with the ones above being slightly smaller. Between the floors, on the right side, there is a moulded cement sign that reads "Farfield Inn." The ground floor features a late 19th-century wooden shopfront on the right, which returns along the side and includes plain pilasters and a cornice. The door has an overlight and is flanked on the right by two single-pane windows, with a blocked angled corner door. To the left, there is a single sash window. The right return has two triple sash windows, with two single sashes above. On the ground floor, to the left, there is a single-pane window in the shopfront, and to the right, a reglazed triple sash window. The interior was refitted in the mid and late 20th century.
