Description

This cartshed, dating to approximately 1820, is located around 60 metres north of the dovecote at Barnes Hall Farm. Constructed of deeply coursed, squared sandstone, the walls are horizontally punched. The roof is covered with sheet asbestos. The cartshed is two stories high and comprises five bays. The ground floor features a continuous row of five basket-arched cart openings, each with voussoirs set on square stone piers and incorporating plain impost blocks. The cart openings have projecting keystones. A central hatch is located on the first floor, featuring a projecting sill (cut away) and a plain square surround. Two similar louvred openings are positioned above the outer piers, with intact sills. Stone steps lead up to board doors at each end of the cartshed.
