Description
Mosborough Hall Hotel is a country house, dating from the mid-17th century, with significant remodelling in the early 18th century and alterations in the mid-19th century. It was converted into a hotel in 1976. The house is constructed of coursed squared stone and ashlar, with ashlar dressings, and has a roof that is not visible. Four coped stone side wall stacks are present.
The south front has a high main block of three storeys and a three-window range. Features include a plinth, lintel and sill bands, quoins, and an open balustrade with brackets. The upper floors contain three twelve-pane sashes. Below, a central French window is set within a stone surround topped with a broken pediment containing a shield, flanked by two further twelve-pane sashes. A two-storey right wing has a coped parapet and single twelve-pane sashes on each floor. The right return displays three twelve-pane sashes, with two similar sashes below, flanked to the right by a 20th-century flat-roofed, glazed wooden porch. At the rear of this wing are two two-light chamfered mullioned windows on each floor. A slightly projecting three-storey left wing, raised in the 19th century, has a ground floor lintel band and a coped parapet. It features a single twelve-pane sash and a French window below, with glazing bars. The left return incorporates a 19th-century round-headed margin light stair window flanked by single small twelve-pane sashes. Above are three twelve-pane sashes. A 19th-century moulded stone doorcase with cornice supports a moulded double door with an overlight. To the left is a 19th-century canted stone bay window with plain sashes.
The interior includes an 18th-century dogleg wooden stair with vase and stem-and-twist balusters, scroll brackets at the foot, and a ramped handrail. The stairwell features an enriched plaster ceiling and two enriched arches lead into a room on the south front, which has 17th-century framed panelling, an enriched cross beam ceiling, and a 19th-century fireplace. A central ground floor room has 18th-century moulded wall panelling, a moulded cross beam ceiling, an 18th-century stone corner fireplace, and a 19th-century marble fireplace. A first-floor front room has late 17th-century full-height panelling, cornice, and an overmantel, a moulded stone fireplace dating from around 1800, and two 18th-century fielded panelled doors. A rear second-floor room has similar oak panelling and a 19th-century fireplace. A late 17th-century open well stair with winders is characterized by turned balusters and ball finials.
