Description
This canal milestone, located approximately 260 metres southeast of Devil's Hole Bridge, dates from the late 18th to early 19th century and was created for the Chesterfield Canal Company. It is made of dressed limestone and features a thick, round-headed slab. The inscription '16' is visible on the side facing the canal, indicating the distance to Chesterfield. This milestone may be original to the canal scheme surveyed by James Brindley, which was constructed between 1771 and 1777.
