Description
Devil's Hole Bridge is a canal bridge located on the Chesterfield Canal, likely built in the late 18th century, with the arch rebuilt in the 19th century. It was constructed for the Chesterfield Canal Company using squared rubble limestone, while the arch is made of brick. The bridge features a single span with a segmental brick arch that has a projecting outer order. The wing walls curve outward and downward, ending at projecting end piers. It is topped with heavy rectangular-sectioned stone copings. Most bridges along this part of the canal are of a later date, making this bridge, despite its alterations, a possible representation of the original style used.
