Description

Thorpe Bridge is a canal bridge built around 1840 for the Chesterfield Canal Company. It features limestone ashlar voussoirs and red brick construction. The bridge has a single span with projecting springing stones supporting a segmental arch, which includes a projecting keystone that originally had a ledge above it. The abutment walls curve outward and end at projecting piers, with some of the brickwork in the parapet having been renewed. The rectangular-sectioned stone copings have been partly replaced with concrete.
