Description
The farmbuilding at Spa House Farm, located approximately 35 metres north of the farmhouse, is a Grade II listed structure. This building, which includes cowhouses with haylofts, dates from the mid-18th century and the 19th century. It is constructed from deeply-coursed, dressed sandstone and features pantile roofs. Originally designed in an L-shaped plan, a gabled addition to the right now forms part of a double-wing that projects to the front right.
The building is two storeys high and displays quoins on the earlier sections. The main range has a wide doorway to the right, set in a bonded stone surround, with a renewed casement window to its left in a square-faced surround. There are external steps leading to a first-floor doorway on the left, also in a bonded surround. The older wing to the right has altered two-light windows on the ground floor, now featuring stone mullions and slatted casements. Above, there is a square-faced surround for a first-floor hatch, with a smaller opening above that has a ledge.
The 19th-century section includes a ground-floor doorway to the left of a slatted casement and a tall loading door on the first floor, which has a projecting sill and a cracked lintel. The building is adorned with shaped kneelers and gable copings throughout, with the kneelers from the 19th century having a different design. A truncated brick end stack is present at the front of the 18th-century gable. There are attached outbuildings at the rear of the 19th-century part, but these are not of special interest.
