Description
This is a barn located approximately 20 metres south of Town End Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. It is built from coursed, dressed sandstone and has a 20th-century pantile roof. The barn has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys high with seven bays, plus a three-bay wing at the rear left. It features a wallstone plinth and a tall central waggon entrance with quoined jambs and a segmental arch. There are two rows of slit vents in each outer bay and an eaves band along the hipped roof. The rear side has a matching waggon entrance with a blocked hatch above it. On the left side, there is a quoined segmental-arched doorway, two hatches to the first floor in rebated quoined surrounds, and additional slit vents.
Inside, the barn has king-post trusses with diagonal struts. It is situated in an important location at the south end of the village street, known as Brampton Road.
