Description

The oval-sectioned headstone to Martha Brewerton is located approximately 12 metres north of the Church of St. Nicholas. Dated 1818, it is made of ashlar magnesian limestone. The headstone features a monolithic oval-section column with a moulded base and a plain shaft that bears a weathered inscription reading: "MARTHA the wife/of/Le Gay Brewerton/died May 1818/Aged 27 years." It has a gadrooned cap with the stump of a spike finial or a fixing dowel, showcasing a very unusual design. Information regarding the inscription is sourced from the Nottinghamshire Record Office.
