Description

There are two pairs of gate piers with a linking wall located on the north side of the churchyard at the Church of St. Mary. These structures likely date from around 1700, although the eastern gate piers have been rebuilt. They are made of red brick with ashlar dressings. The western pair of gate piers is situated to the north of the tower and next to Church Cottage, while the other pair is located to the north of the chancel. The low linking wall encloses the north side of the churchyard. The western gate piers feature brick panels with square piers rising from ashlar blocks, small consoles on the inner side, and a large console on the outer side of the left (eastern) pier. They also have cornices and obelisk finials. The low wall with chamfered copings connects to the eastern piers, which have similar ashlar dressings on their brick panels, although these are of a later date.
