Description
Woodside Cottages is a pair of semi-detached houses built in 1908 by Percy Houfton for the Brodsworth Colliery Company. Constructed from red brick in English garden wall bond, the houses feature a later pantile roof and stand two storeys tall. Each house has a total of four windows on the first floor, arranged as a reflected pair. The inner side of the canted two-storey bays has part-glazed doors, with casement windows that have glazing bars arranged in a pattern of 2:2:2 lights on each floor, separated by vertical wooden studding. A central gable sits above two similar four-light casements on each floor, and there is a corniced date plaque. The eaves are swept, and the houses have corniced end stacks that are corbelled from the end gables, along with a matching central ridge stack. This is the only example of its type in the Woodlands colliery village, and it is well preserved.
