Description

ADWICK-LE-STREET WOODLANDS SE 50 NW 11/37 Nos. 1 and 2 Woodside Cottages GV II Pair of semi-detached houses. Dated 1908. By Percy Houfton for the Brodsworth Colliery Company. Red brick in English garden wall bond, later pantile roof. 2 storeys, total of 4 windows to 1st floor: reflected pair. Part-glazed doors on inner side of canted 2-storey bays having casements with glazing bars of 2 : 2 : 2 lights to each floor with vertical wooden studding between. Central gable over 2 similar 4-light casements to each floor; corniced date plaque. Swept eaves; corniced end stacks corbelled from end gables, matching central ridge stack. Only example of its type in the Woodlands colliery village (see Church of All Saints, Central Avenue); well preserved.
