Description

A group of four houses built in 1908 and subsequently altered, designed by Percy Houfton for the Brodsworth Colliery Company. The houses are constructed of roughcast brick with a cement-tile roof. They have a near-symmetrical arrangement, with two storeys and a varying number of windows per bay – 1 : 1 : 2 : 1 : 1 to the first floor – and gabled cross-wings at either end. The windows are wooden casements with glazing bars.

The left-hand house, No. 26, has a partially-glazed door beneath a canopy supported on scrolled brackets, situated to the left of a four-light window. The right-hand house, No. 32, is similar but with the features reversed.

No. 28, to the left of the centre, features a 20th-century brick porch, which is not considered to be of special interest, flanked by three-light windows. No. 30 retains an original boarded door and a single-light window to the left, set between two three-light windows. Both No. 28 and No. 30 have two three-light windows to the first floor; the central windows are paired and positioned beneath a stepped eaves level. The building has swept eaves and three brick ridge stacks with dentilled cornices.

The houses were part of the Woodlands colliery village, and are related to the Church of All Saints on Central Avenue.
