Description

Red House Farmhouse, dating from the late 19th century, is located on the north side of the Doncaster Road near High Melton. It is shown on Ordnance Survey maps as Melton Farm. The farmhouse is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a 20th-century cement-tile roof. It is two storeys high and originally had five bays, with a wing extending to the rear right. An ashlar plinth runs along the base of the building. The central entrance features a round-arched, partially glazed door with a plain fanlight, set within a corniced doorcase which is currently obscured by ivy. Tall sash windows with glazing bars are fitted throughout the ground floor, having projecting sills and plain lintels. Similar sash windows are on the first floor, linked by a sill band. The central first-floor window has sill blocks and an architrave, and is also round-arched. The roof is hipped, with grouped chimney stacks set on square plinths with cornices at each end of the ridge. The left return side features two tripartite windows on the ground floor. A 20th-century single-storey addition to the right return is not considered to be of special interest.
