Description

Twitchell Corner is a house that dates from the late 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of rubble limestone and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and attics, with a main garden front that has a layout of two windows on each floor. At the rear of the garden front, there is an outshut with a mock-Tudor gabled projection facing the road.

A central straight joint indicates the quoined 17th-century section to the left. Below this joint, there is a panelled door framed by a square-faced surround and sheltered by a rustic-wood porch. To the left of the porch, there are two windows on each floor, which feature old sashes with glazing bars set in square-faced surrounds. Remnants of 17th-century window surrounds can still be seen to the left of the first bay and the porch.

On the right side of the porch, the windows have 20th-century casements in altered double-chamfered surrounds, with the sills lowered and an enlarged window immediately to the right of the porch. The roof has four dormers with casements that include glazing bars. The hipped roof is topped with early 20th-century brick end stacks and a matching ridge stack above the porch. The roadside front has a corbelled bressumer beneath the gabled projection, which likely dates from around 1900.
