Description
Marsh Hills Farmhouse is a building that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the early 18th century and has undergone alterations in the 20th century. The farmhouse is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond on the front wall, topped with a 20th-century pantile roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic and features a symmetrical arrangement of windows, with two in the centre and one on each side on the first floor.
The building has a brick plinth, and the narrow central bay projects slightly, featuring a 20th-century door with an overlight set beneath a flat brick arch with a keystone. The first two bays have projecting sills supporting 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars, while the third and fourth bays have large 20th-century French windows to the left of an added porch, with a casement window beyond.
On the first floor, the windows mirror those on the ground floor but are topped with 20th-century flat arches. The gable ends are adorned with shaped brick and stone kneelers and ashlar gable copings. The building has later brick stacks at the ends and a similar ridge stack. At the rear, there is a walled-up two-light square-faced mullioned window leading to a partial cellar, a doorway with a pointed stone cornice supported by corbels, and a tall stair window to the right.
The interior has not been inspected, but details and the plan form are recorded in the South Yorkshire County Ancient Monuments and Sites Record in Sheffield.
