Description
This is an outbuilding located approximately 50 metres to the north-east of Vine Cottage, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It was built for the Owston Hall estate and is constructed of rubble magnesian limestone with stone slate eaves courses beneath a pantile roof. The building has two storeys and features a two-celled loose box beneath a single room that is accessed by external steps at the south end. It has large quoins, and the east side includes a brick round-arched opening on each side of an adjoining field wall, with casement windows above. There is a central brick stack at the eaves. On the left return, external stone steps rise from the left over a round-arched recess that contains a bricked-up doorway; to the left of this is a first-floor boarded door with an obscured window. Inside, there is a fireplace on the first floor, and it is said that the building was used as a village schoolroom.
