Description
The iron gates and piers located immediately to the south-east of Doncaster Lodge are an estate entrance gateway, likely dating from around 1828, coinciding with the construction of Doncaster Lodge. They were created for the Owston Hall estate and are made of cast iron. The double gates are hung on triangular-sectioned piers, each featuring a moulded plinth and raised ribs on each face that form a panel with diagonal patterns and a roundel. The piers also have a projecting band with an ear for hanging the stile beneath a pyramidal cap. The gates themselves include finialled dog bars, a rail, and a curved brace above, with vesicular ornamentation between the twin top rails and cresting finials. These gates and piers are included for their group value.
