Description
This is a combination farmbuilding located approximately 30 metres north of the farmhouse at Lady Thorpe, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond, with a 20th-century roof sheeting. The building has two storeys and is arranged in a 3:2:3 bay configuration, with the central bays projecting forward on both sides.
The north-facing elevation features a stone plinth and includes two-storey round-arched recesses in bays 2, 4, 5, and 7. Bay 5 has a wide ground-floor opening with a cambered arch, and the ground-floor windows in the other recesses have been altered. Bays 1, 3, 6, and 8 contain casement windows with stone sills and cambered arches. On the first floor, each arched recess has an opening with a stone sill; the central openings are bricked up, while bay 2 has a casement and bay 7 has a boarded hatch. The building features cogged eaves beneath a hipped roof.
On the south side, which faces the farmyard, there are external steps leading to a loft door in an arched recess on the left, with the rest of the elevation being similar to the north side. Originally, the structure included a central barn flanked by cowhouses with haylofts and a granary, but it has since been converted into a milking parlour, piggery, and hen houses. Attached farm buildings are not of special interest.
