Description

This is an 18th-century cartshed with a dovecote, located approximately 40 metres east of Stonehill Farmhouse. The building is constructed of red brick in a random bond pattern, with a pantile roof. It is two stories high and consists of a single cell with two-bay cartshed arcades on both the east and west sides.

The west side features two infilled basket archways on the ground floor, although the left-hand archway is partially obscured by attached farm buildings (which do not contribute to the building’s special heritage interest). Above the archways is a lunette window with two deep stone ledges. The detailing includes dentilled eaves, shaped kneelers, and ashlar gable copings. The rear (east side) has open archways mirroring those on the front.

The right return side has a blind lunette with two ledges, similar to the front. The left return side incorporates external steps within the attached farm buildings (again, not of special interest), and has a blocked lunette window in the gable.

Inside, the upper storey has a brick-paved floor with brick nesting holes for the dovecote. At the time of the most recent inspection, the floor and roof were in poor condition.
