Description
The Magdalen Hotel is an 18th-century public house located on the east side of Market Place in Doncaster. It is constructed of painted brick with a stuccoed ground floor and painted stone dressings, topped with a slate roof. The building is three storeys high and five bays wide. The ground floor features a central, pilastered doorcase of the 20th century, with a recessed 20th-century door. Large, early 20th-century, three-light windows with leaded top lights, etched glass, and projecting sills are positioned on either side of the doorcase. A timber cornice runs across the full width of the building, above a wide ashlar band at the first floor level. The five first and second-floor windows are 12-pane sashes set beneath flat brick arches; the first-floor sashes have a sill band, while those above have projecting sills. A moulded eaves cornice and brick end stacks positioned halfway down the front of the roof complete the exterior.
